Antiboom

The antiboom is a period of economic recession which follows a period of economic boom. The antiboom is typically characterized by high levels of unemployment and deflation.

The term was first coined in the early 1990s, when the Japanese economy experienced a period of deflation and high unemployment following the Japanese asset price bubble of the 1980s. The term has since been used to describe other periods of economic recession, including the early 2000s recession in the United States and the late 2000s recession in Europe.
